I am feeling a little terrestrial right now - poems and stories

specimens

Look: the City’s
Soft belly
    bulging with Haves
Arms and legs
    brimming with Have-Nots

One day they will metamorphise,
those Have-Nots,
into peach and orange butterflies.
Just one more year,
(always one more year),
is all it will take,
to join the Haves,
pinned down on mounting board
their ornamental, static wings
spread wide and labelled
securely,
anaesthetised by their own abundance.
